Climber / Competitive Hang Glider
Jeff Shapiro lives and works with his family in Missoula, Montana. His personal philosophy in life is simple, to live as many moments with passion, gratitude, humility, and zeal for endeavors. Jeff’s relationship with the mountains began at 14 and he has been climbing each facet and medium extensively since. Although discovering hang gliding in 1993, his life is still dominated by the self-exploration afforded by all aspects of climbing. Whether on difficult walls, ice, limestone sport routes, boulders or big mixed alpine routes, Jeff is continually searching for the maximum experience and personal growth. Six years ago, Jeff’s life became more professionally dominated by competition hang gliding. The privilege to race in the skies over venues in Europe, Australia, North and South America has imparted an unparalleled and culturally rich experience. Jeff now makes his living between international competitions and routes by designing race specific hang gliding harnesses, which he custom builds for pilots worldwide. Before the end of 2011, Jeff will travel to Western China and explore the potential for new routes on the mountains of the Daxue Shan. The effort will involve the attempt of Alpine style ascents of the technical west faces of the range.
